Carpet Cleaner Told He Was
Over-Cleaning The Carpets!!
Is That Even Possible??
Here's The Story.
Ron Werner, owner of Happy Carpet Cleaners, operates out of Sooke, BC, Canada. The business started last century, in January of 1994 when he got fed up working for a department store carpet cleaning company that offered really cheap deals that allowed no time to clean properly. He wanted to offer people quality yet that was affordable.
After 8 years of cleaning he began to feel inferior to other companies because they were charging much more than he was and cleaning an average house in less than HALF THE TIME!!
What was he doing wrong?
He asked one of the best cleaners in North America to evaluate his operation.
"You are doing an excellent job. Your procedure is right on, but you are over-cleaning. You are taking more time than you need to. The other cleaners are removing half the soil but the carpets still look clean. The average person won't know the difference. You take too much time vacuuming, and you are not currently charging enough to afford to take that much time. You will go out of business."
Overcleaning???
Taking too much time???
Not charging enough???
What could he change? He knew that if he skimped on vacuuming there would be a ton of soil left in some carpets. It took time to remove that soil, time to DO THE JOB RIGHT. And many of his clients were not average.
They wanted to know their carpets were clean!
They expected excellence!
What did he do?
Well, rather than drop the quality of service or risk going out of business, he decided to raise the price. Now, after 16 years in the industry, his service is second to none and his price when compared to the majority of the cleaners in the Victoria area, who offer average budget type service, seems quite high. But compared to the best cleaners you will receive every penny worth of value and then some.
And he still tries to find ways to provide an even better service!
